The goal of this thesis is to create a robust catalogue of visual explorations pertaining to the idea of distorted perceptions of reality. I will visually break down my own personal reflection of self while recognizing my own perspective will change throughout the process. I want to place an emphasis on being able to recognize and call out moments where things shift and examine why the shift happened. It is in seeking to understand our own perspective where we can finally then examine how another persons lived expeprience might lead them to a different concusion than the one you drew.
Using a variety of distortion techniques, I hope to capture some of the emotional significance of the human experience. I want to get further at what provokes empathetic responses and ultimately want to better understand why we develop such unique and distinct viewpoints. I think that through finding the subtle biases we contain and pointing them out, it will lead to a more full understanding of how we can take such different perspectives on the same issues. The final form of this project will be an exhibit with an accompanying process book.
